NASA unveils next crew of astronauts who will fly to space station

The four-person crew will conduct research and demonstrations aboard the station to support future Moon and Mars missions, NASA said.

  • NASA announced the four-person crew for the SpaceX Crew-13 mission to the International Space Station, scheduled for launch this September under the Commercial Crew Program.
  • Leading the flight, NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins will command the mission, accompanied by pilot Luke Delaney, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Russian cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov.
  • Kutryk, a colonel in the Royal Canadian Air Force, will spend six months aboard the ISS during Expeditions 75 and 76, marking the first time a Canadian Space Agency astronaut has served a half-year residency in eight years.
  • The crew will conduct research and demonstrations to help prepare humans for future exploration missions to the Moon and Mars, including science experiments and maintenance activities.
  • Operated by five international partners, the International Space Station has orbited for 25 years, bringing together international flight crews and globally distributed launch and flight operations, according to NASA.
