Astronomers probe comet from beyond the solar system. It’s only the 3rd one ever observed
“Interstellar comets offer the tantalizing opportunity for us to touch something truly otherworldly,” says the European Space Agency.
ESA Observes Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS - Astrobiology
Astronomers from ESA’s Near-Earth Object Coordination Centre (NEOCC), part of the Agency’s Planetary Defence Office, made these observations of the newly discovered interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS on 2 July 2025. The comet is only the third of its kind ever observed, following the famous 1I/ʻOumuamua in 2017 and 2I/Borisov in 2019. It was first spotted on […] The post ESA Observes Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS appeared first on Astrobiology.
New Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS Speeds Through Solar System
Astronomers have identified 3I/ATLAS as the third confirmed interstellar comet, racing through the solar system at 68 km/s. Discovered on July 1, it will pass near the sun in October. Skywatchers can view this rare object live online tonight, thanks to a live stream by the Virtual Telescope Project using observatories in Italy.
Astronomers Monitor Interstellar Comet 3I/Atlas
