Napa winemaker turns to new cover crop to combat red blotch

Across his vineyards, Jason Moulton, the director of winemaking and viticulture at Whitehall Lane Winery in Rutherford, has planted Oakville bluegrass, a cover crop he says has discouraged the nesting of the threecornered alfalfa hopper, an insect pest that helps spread the grapevine disease known as red blotch.
