Google Reveals Nano Banana 2 AI Image Model, Coming to Gemini Today
- On Thursday, Google rolled out Nano Banana 2 as an update to its popular AI image generator, powered by Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, Google said.
- To widen access, Google positioned Nano Banana 2 as making Pro-only features available to more users while Nano Banana Pro remains for high-fidelity tasks for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
- Capable of 4K output, Nano Banana 2 produces richer textures, sharper details, maintains subject consistency for up to five characters, and object fidelity for 14 objects in one workflow.
- As a result, Nano Banana 2 will be the default in Google Search AI Mode and Google Lens across 141 countries and Flow AI creative studio, with developer preview via Gemini API, Gemini CLI, Vertex AI, AI Studio, and Google Antigravity.
- On safety and provenance, Google will apply SynthID watermarks and support C2PA Content Credentials, with SynthID used over 20 million times since November despite lingering detectability questions.
