Nanaimo senior killed after being hit by SUV on Departure Bay Rd.
Police say the SUV left the road for unknown reasons, and investigators found no indication that alcohol, drugs or speed were factors.
On Thursday, July 23, a man in his late 70s died after an SUV struck him while standing next to his parked vehicle on Departure Bay Road near Argyle Street in Nanaimo.
Nanaimo RCMP, Police, and Paramedics responded shortly before 5 p.m., transporting the victim to hospital with life-threatening injuries; he later succumbed to his wounds.
Preliminary investigations indicate road conditions were dry and favorable, with no evidence that speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors in the crash, according to Nanaimo RCMP.
The SUV driver, also a man in his late 70s, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators examining why the vehicle left the roadway.
Inspector Donovan Tait, Nanaimo RCMP Operations Officer, stated the tragedy deeply affected those involved; Witnesses with dashcam footage are asked to contact the RCMP at 754-2345.
