US Businessman Adam Castillo Deported From Myanmar After Months in Jail, State Media Says
Myanmar’s military-run government deported Adam Castillo, a U.S. businessman and former president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, after three months in jail on charges his supporters say were false.
State-Run MRTV television reported Castillo was flown out of the capital Naypyitaw to maintain friendly relations between Myanmar and the United States.
Mickey Bergman, CEO of Global Reach, said members of the Trump administration worked quietly behind the scenes to secure Castillo’s release.
Castillo, a former U.S. Marine and founder of AGS Myanmar, was detained at Yangon Airport after being accused of financial impropriety by the American Chamber of Commerce, which he denies.
