Man Jailed for Male Model Luke Harden's 'Cowardly' Murder
The 27-year-old was convicted after a jury found he punched and stamped on Luke Harden, who died from blunt force trauma, police said.
On Monday, Bhekisani Matabiswana was sentenced to life imprisonment at Preston Crown Court for murdering 37-year-old model Luke Harden, with a minimum term of 16 years and six months before parole eligibility.
The attack occurred on November 1 last year after both men left a Halloween party in Stacksteads; Matabiswana brutally assaulted Harden, causing fatal blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
Judge Robert Altham rejected Matabiswana's self-defense claims, stating Harden's life was 'full of promise and hope and you brought that life to an end,' and noting the killer fractured his jaw in two places.
After the assault, Matabiswana did not call 999 but instead attempted to flee to South Africa, arrested at Manchester Airport two days later; Luke's girlfriend said, 'You have ruined not only Luke's life but mine too.'
Det Insp Pete MacDonald of Lancashire Police described the attack as 'frenzied and cowardly,' and due to time on remand, Matabiswana's sentence was reduced to 15 years and 353 days.
