Mozilla is putting an AI window into Firefox with a privacy twist

Mozilla's AI Window lets Firefox users chat with an AI assistant on their terms, with full opt-in control and no impact on normal browsing, Mozilla says.

  • Mozilla announced an experimental feature called AI Window that centralizes upcoming AI tools in Firefox and is completely opt-in, letting users switch it off if they prefer.
  • Building on prior experiments such as the sidebar chatbot, Mozilla built AI Window to deliver smarter help and offers a user-choice alternative to other AI browsers' always-on approach.
  • As a separate mode, AI Window acts as a distinct third way alongside standard browsing mode and Private Window, letting users select and switch AI chatbot providers without altering normal tabs or history.
  • Mozilla opened a waitlist for early testers and is encouraging sign-ups, while the Mozilla product team will collect feedback to refine the feature before a wider release.
  • Mozilla's 'build in the open' approach means users can shape AI Window, paired with anti‑fingerprinting protections Mozilla says have reduced tracking by half.
