Mother sentenced to nearly 40 years for child torture in Crosslake
CROW WING COUNTY, MINNESOTA, AUG 7 – Jorden Borders was convicted of abusing her children and defrauding Medicaid of over $18,000, receiving a 468-month sentence including stalking and attempted murder charges.
- On August 7, 2025, a 34-year-old mother from Crosslake named Jorden Nicole Borders received a prison sentence of 468 months in Crow Wing County Court for torturing her three children and committing Medicaid fraud.
- The charges came after a 2022 inquiry uncovered that Borders subjected her children to years of physical, emotional, and verbal mistreatment, in addition to submitting false medical claims.
- During the trial, evidence showed Borders forcibly withdrew blood from her then-9-year-old son, made children wear casts without injuries, and regularly threatened to kill them.
- Judge Patricia Aanes imposed the sentence while taking into account several aggravating circumstances, such as Borders' exploitation of her trusted role, the especially cruel nature of her behavior, and the heightened vulnerability of one child who remained in a cast for over two years despite limited injuries.
- Attorney General Keith Ellison called Borders’ crimes among the most heinous he has seen and asked Minnesotans to pray for the children’s recovery from their trauma, while Borders’ parental rights have been terminated and she plans to appeal.
