- On August 7, 2025, a 34-year-old mother from Crosslake named Jorden Nicole Borders received a prison sentence of 468 months in Crow Wing County Court for torturing her three children and committing Medicaid fraud.
- The charges came after a 2022 inquiry uncovered that Borders subjected her children to years of physical, emotional, and verbal mistreatment, in addition to submitting false medical claims.
- During the trial, evidence showed Borders forcibly withdrew blood from her then-9-year-old son, made children wear casts without injuries, and regularly threatened to kill them.
