Most Singaporeans Know About LPAs, but only 1 in 3 Have Made One
A study by Singapore Management University's Centre for Research on Successful Ageing found that many Singaporeans are unprepared legally for cognitive decline despite high awareness of the Lasting Power of Attorney .
About 69.2% of respondents knew about the LPA, but only 31.3% had made one.
Without an LPA, individuals losing mental capacity face medical access delays and families face legal and administrative hurdles in decision-making during medical or financial crises, according to Professor Paulin Straughan.
Over 41% of respondents did not have an LPA and did not plan to make one, highlighting the need for better public education on the consequences of not having an LPA.
