Recall Alert: 764K RYOBI Electric Pressure Washers Recalled

TTI Outdoor Power Equipment is providing free repair kits after 135 reports of overheating capacitors caused 41 explosions and 32 injuries, including fractures to fingers and face, officials said.

  • On Aug. 28, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that RYOBI is recalling about 764,000 electric power washers, including model RY142300.
  • The recalled machines have a capacitor defect that causes the pressure washer capacitor to overheat and burst, ejecting parts and risking serious injury to users and bystanders.
  • So far, regulators have logged 135 overheating reports, including 41 explosions and 32 injuries, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment and the CPSC said.
  • Owners are instructed to stop using recalled washers and visit ryobitools.com/recall or call RYOBI Customer Service at 1-800-597-9624 to request a free repair kit; proof of purchase is not required.
  • Sold between July 2017 and June 2024, the models retailed for about $300 to $400 at Home Depot, Direct Tools Factory Outlet, and online, with around 16,000 units sold in Canada.
