Water supply issues for thousands in Kent days after week-long outage

- About 4,500 properties in villages around Maidstone face supply issues after South East Water said an electrical fault at a treatment works disrupted service.
- In Tunbridge Wells, `Meanwhile, about 320 properties in the Bidborough area of Tunbridge Wells have been experiencing water supply issues since Wednesday. SEW said this was caused by a power outage. Bidborough area is currently with intermittent supplies and low pressure. We expect supplies here to return to normal on Monday morning`, Dean added, and disruption may continue until Monday.
- SEW apologised and opened bottled water points from 09:00 GMT on Sunday at Mote Park Leisure Centre, Headcorn Aerodrome, Harrietsham Village Hall, and Bidborough Village Hall for customers affected.
- Ofwat, the water regulator, is launching an investigation into repeated supply failures in the two counties after Kent County Council declared a major incident.
- The disruption follows earlier problems this week that affected about 30,000 people in Sussex and Kent and months earlier left 24,000 properties in Tunbridge Wells without drinkable water.
