- In September, there were at least 255,212 foreign nationals apprehended or reported evading capture after illegally entering the southwest border, with the most gotaways reported in the El Paso and Tucson sectors.
- The term "gotaways" refers to the number of people who illegally enter the U.S. Between ports of entry and intentionally try to evade capture and don't return to Mexico. Last month, there were at least 222,009 apprehensions and 33,203 gotaways.
- Agents reported extremely low gotaway numbers last month in the Yuma sector due to agents being pulled out of the field to address an influx of people at the border wall. This was out of the ordinary.
