More than 19 million eggs voluntarily recalled over potential salmonella contamination

The recall covers white and brown shell eggs from Texas farms, and the company said no illnesses have been reported.

  • On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration announced that Midwest Poultry Services is recalling nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs produced in Texas due to potential Salmonella Enteritidis contamination.
  • Proactive testing prompted the company to initiate the recall; no illnesses have been linked to the products as of the announcement, and Midwest Poultry Services has halted distribution from its Texas farms.
  • Affected eggs were sold under Kroger, Simple Truth, and Country Morning at retailers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Consumers should check cartons for codes P-1950 or 0840962 with Julian Date between 157 and 184.
  • Anyone who bought the affected eggs is urged to return products for a full refund and not consume them. Salmonella infection can cause diarrhea, fever, and cramps within 12 to 72 hours of eating contaminated food.
  • This recall adds to existing food safety concerns as federal officials continue managing a separate parasitic outbreak involving contaminated lettuce, which has resulted in 4,173 confirmed cases across 41 states.
