The UN health agency said only 60% of Yemen’s health facilities are fully functional as it braces for wider disease outbreaks.
- On Tuesday, the World Health Organization warned that Yemen's health system is reaching a 'breaking point' as renewed fighting between Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces has displaced at least 145,000 people this month.
- Annette Heinzelmann, WHO Regional Emergency Director, reported nine health facilities have been damaged or attacked in Taiz, Lahj, and Hodeidah, as clashes that resumed two months ago force hospitals to prioritize trauma care.
- Nearly 8,000 suspected cholera cases, more than 9,600 dengue cases, and over 22,000 suspected measles cases have been reported this year, Heinzelmann noted, amid overcrowding and limited access to safe sanitation.
- Lifesaving trauma kits and essential medicines are at zero stock in the WHO's Aden warehouse, while the agency has secured only $2 million of the $9 million needed for its response.
- More than 180,000 people have been uprooted by the conflict, and partners are bracing for potentially 5,000 to 10,000 new arrivals in coming weeks, placing strain on neighboring Djibouti.
