More than 100 reported injuries prompts recall of nvyue 'magic pocket staffs'
The CPSC said 163 injury reports, including corneal lacerations and temporary vision loss, prompted the recall of the sold-on-Amazon toys.
- On April 16, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled approximately 25,000 Magic Pocket Staffs following 163 reports of injuries to the eyes, face, and hands.
- Safety investigators found the protective pin mechanism often fails to engage, causing the staff to suddenly deploy from its tightly wound cylinder, "leaving virtually no opportunity for protection," the recall alert said.
- Reports of injuries include "corneal lacerations, temporary vision loss and injuries requiring stitches," according to The CPSC; many incidents involved children as young as 9 years old.
- Customers are urged to stop using the product immediately and contact Xingwenfeng for a full refund, marking the staff with their initials and the date to qualify.
- Sold on Amazon from September 2020 through March 2026 for between $8 and $26, the staffs are subject to recall number 26-409, with details available on the Amazon product safety alerts page.
