More Than 100 Labour MPs Sign A Letter Of Support For Starmer
The letter says Labour must rebuild trust after poor election results and warns that 103 MPs back Starmer while 89 want him to go.
On Tuesday, 103 Labour MPs signed an open letter backing Prime Minister Keir Starmer, declaring "this is no time for a leadership contest" to blunt efforts to trigger a challenge.
Following the resignation of 89 MPs and three ministers last week, the letter addresses a "devastatingly tough set of election results" across England, Wales, and Scotland that shook the party.
Party rules require 20% of the Parliamentary Labour Party, or 81 MPs, to trigger a leadership contest; the 103 signatories currently exceed this threshold that Starmer's rivals must reach.
Defiant, Starmer told cabinet rivals to "put up or shut up," insisting he will not walk away from office despite mounting leadership pressure.
Defence Secretary John Healey warned "more instability is not in Britain's interest" as he reiterated support for the Prime Minister amid ongoing economic and security challenges.
