More employers are sending workers shopping for their own health coverage
- A growing number of employers are allowing workers to choose their own health insurance using Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements, known as ICHRAs, which began during Donald Trump's administration.
- Currently, about 450,000 people are offered coverage through ICHRAs, which represent a small portion of employer-sponsored health insurance in the U.S., where around 154 million were enrolled last year according to KFF.
- Cynthia Cox from KFF stated that ICHRAs are 'maybe not perfect, but they are solving a problem for a lot of people.'
- Brian Blase, a former White House health policy adviser, noted that individuals cannot participate in an ICHRA if they are already receiving a government subsidy.
