According to a September survey by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), 17.1% of Spaniards identify as atheists, while 15.9% identify as practicing Catholics. However, this doesn't mean that there are more atheists than Catholics in Spain. Practicing and non-practicing Catholics combined account for 54.4% of those surveyed.
