The number of asylum applications in the Netherlands clearly increased in early 2026. In the first quarter, nearly 6,000 people applied for asylum for the first time. That is an increase of 33 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. This is evident from new figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), based on data from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

The largest group of asylum seekers, 1,100 people, comes from the Palestinian territories in the first three months of 2026.
