Montana Teen Uses Rodeo Lasso to Save Drowning Man in River
The 14-year-old roped the man on his first throw and pulled him to shore after hearing screams from the river, officials said.
- On July 5, 14-year-old Jory Thomas saved a drowning man from the Yellowstone River near Pelican Fishing Access by roping him with his lariat after a raft accident.
- Four people fell into the Yellowstone River after their raft struck a bridge pier near Greycliff; three reached shore, but one drifted downstream clinging to a cooler.
- Thomas roped the man on his first throw, pulling him through chest-deep water to safety. Sweet Grass County Sheriff Alan Ronneberg praised the teen's "quick thinking and coolness under pressure."
- On July 21, the Sweet Grass County Sheriff's Office presented Thomas with a Certificate of Achievement. Last Tuesday, July 28, Senator Steve Daines honored Thomas as the Montanan of the Month.
- Thomas will soon begin his freshman year at Sweet Grass County High School, where he is looking forward to basketball practice starting November 19.
