Monster Hunter Wilds' first expansion brings some of the best Elder Dragons back to life
Capcom said the expansion will add floating islands, new bowgun functions and returning elder dragons after Wilds sold nearly 10 million copies.
- At the Polygon Summer Game Fest, Capcom announced the first major expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, titled Ascendance, scheduled to launch next year.
- The expansion features a network of floating islands that fans noted resemble the Heaven and Mount region, with returning elder dragons including Kushala Daora from MonHun, Freedom Unite, and Ultimate.
- Lao-Shan Lung, an elder dragon absent from mainline Monster Hunter since Generations Ultimate, returns alongside new bowgun functions in this Iceborne-sized expansion.
- Summer Game Fest also featured Capcom's reveal of Resident Evil Veronica, an ambitious remake of 2000's Code Veronica, joining Ascendance on the studio's 2027 release calendar.
- Despite selling nearly 10 million copies at launch, Monster Hunter Wilds faced widespread criticism for streamlined hunts and performance troubles, though Ascendance aims to rebuild momentum.
