Man Caught Shining Laser at Police Helicopter
Colin Quinn admitted his actions were due to intoxication and stupidity; this was one of three recent laser attacks on police aircraft in northern England, NPAS said.
- On Tuesday , Colin Quinn, 44, of Ferryhill, County Durham, was jailed for four months and ordered to pay £154 at Durham Crown Court.
- During a June 29 missing-person search, a police helicopter crew reported a green laser shining into their cockpit, and a patrol car was sent to Highland Terrace, Ferryhill, County Durham.
- Ground officers, using helicopter imaging equipment, traced Colin Quinn to a Highland Terrace home; he was captured on camera and found with the laser down the sofa in his living room, reacting, `Oh, I’m f****d`.
- Sgt Peter Newman criticised the behaviour and said Quinn's actions endangered NPAS colleagues and diverted resources from a missing-person search.
- NPAS noted the episode is the third deliberate laser incident in the North in recent weeks, with officials warning such acts jeopardise crew and public safety.
