Moldova Condemns Russia After Five Drones Crash on Its Territory
Authorities said the drones crashed in northern and eastern districts, lightly injuring 1 person and causing minor damage.
On Friday, October 16, Moldova condemned Russia after five drones identified as Russian crashed in the country in less than 24 hours.
As the pro-European government in Moldova continues to denounce the Russian invasion of Ukraine, these incursions highlight risks from sharing a border with the conflict zone.
Five drones entered Moldovan airspace over 17 hours on Thursday and Friday, crashing mainly in northern and eastern districts, lightly injuring one person; one drone last week crashed about 35 km from Chisinau.
President Maia Sandu has repeatedly summoned Russian ambassador Oleg Ozerov to demand explanations, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed ties require Moldova to drop "Russophobia."
The foreign ministry stated, "These incidents pose a threat to citizens' safety and show the direct consequences for regional stability of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
