Mohed Altrad, the billionaire and owner of the Montpellier Hérault Rugby (MHR) club, formalized his candidacy for the municipal elections in Montpellier on Thursday 15 January 2026 at a meeting. He presented the outline of his program.
Mohed Altrad wants to become the new mayor of Montpellier. The head of the company and boss of the MHR rugby club, is officially a candidate. He had already led the municipal campaign in 2020.
The seven-year-old, boss of the BTP group of the same name and of the Montpellier rugby club (MHR), has openly criticized the management of the city during the term of office of socialist mayor Michaël Delafosse.
Already a candidate for the Montpellier City Hall six years ago, Mohed Altrad, owner of the MHR, again declared himself a candidate on Thursday for the municipal elections scheduled for next March.
Mohed Altrad, 77, announced his candidacy for the Montpellier municipal elections on Thursday, January 15, during an evening organised in the Dièze, in the Turney area.
