Modrzewski Tosses 3 TD Passes, Pierre Scores 3 Times and Defense Has 5 Turnovers in Coyotes’ Win
Modrzewski also ran for 26 yards and Pierre added three scores as the Coyotes’ defense turned five takeaways into momentum.
On Saturday, the South Dakota Coyotes defeated the Indiana State Sycamores 44-14 at the DakotaDome, with quarterback Austyn Modrzewski throwing three touchdown passes and the defense forcing five turnovers to secure the program's 100th FCS win.
Building a commanding 30-0 halftime lead, the Coyotes converted four first-half turnovers into four touchdowns. This dominant defensive performance allowed South Dakota to bounce back from a loss to Youngstown State the previous week.
Running back Charles Pierre Jr. rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns while adding a 24-yard receiving score. Modrzewski finished 16-of-23 for 196 yards, connecting with Jesse Miller, Brayden White, and Pierre for touchdown passes.
South Dakota improves to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Coyotes have now won 10 consecutive Dakota Days contests and maintain a perfect 6-0 record against the Sycamores in Vermillion.
Returning to the DakotaDome on Saturday, October 10, South Dakota will host Southern Illinois. Indiana State, having dropped 12 of its last 13 league games, faces Youngstown State at home that same day.
