Mitsubishi Finally Has an Electric Car to Challenge BYD
Mitsubishi’s first pure electric model since 2010 will join a lineup still led by combustion vehicles and help the brand meet efficiency rules.
- Mitsubishi has revealed the ASX VR-e, an electric crossover built in Taiwan with Foxtron that will join the local lineup in the fourth quarter of 2026.
- This pure electric model is crucial for Mitsubishi to help meet Australia's new vehicle efficiency laws, supplementing a lineup currently dominated by combustion-powered vehicles like the Triton and Outlander.
- While local specifications remain unconfirmed, the Foxtron Bria-based vehicle offers a 516km range for RWD variants or 466km for AWD, with all versions charging in roughly 30 minutes to reach 80 per cent.
- According to Foxtron, the AWD version delivers responsive performance, while the ASX VR-e interior features unique Mitsubishi touches including a large central touchscreen and small digital instrument cluster.
