Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) wants conservative firebrand Pat Buchanan to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Schmitt called Buchanan a “courageous intellectual and political trailblazer,” and “one of the great patriots of our time.” He added that Buchanan was among the first conservatives to focus on the “cultural war that liberals were waging in America.”
