Missouri election chief faces whistleblower lawsuit from fired election integrity director
La Strada alleges Hoskins fired him after he reported election misconduct and seeks $80 million in damages.
- On Monday, former Missouri election integrity director Nicholas La Strada filed a lawsuit against Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins, alleging he was wrongfully terminated after exposing internal misconduct.
- La Strada claims Hoskins fired him one week after he reported staff discussed using a "burner phone" and internet protocol address scrambler to fabricate a whistleblower complaint for a federal court hearing.
- Beyond the termination, the lawsuit alleges Hoskins illegally intervened in a Marshall City Council race by changing certified results and improperly used state funds to oppose a St. Louis County ballot measure.
- Attorney Erin N. Vernon seeks $80 million in damages on behalf of La Strada, while spokesperson Anne Marie Moy said Hoskins "will not be able to comment on pending litigation involving a personnel matter."
- Recent legal setbacks for Hoskins include a state Supreme Court contempt finding last Thursday regarding U.S. House districts, alongside a separate class-action lawsuit filed by Missouri voters last week.
