Mining Investment Creating Jobs, Building B.C. Economy
Exploration spending reached nearly $751 million last year, while B.C. approved six major mine permits and set 40-day permit timelines.
- During Mining Month, British Columbia reports record investment levels with a projected mineral production value exceeding $16 billion, driven by accelerated permitting that reduced review timelines by 35 per cent.
- British Columbia introduced fixed 40-day timelines for mineral exploration permits this year, a first in Canada; the budget includes $3 million to strengthen permitting capacity and support project development.
- Today, more than 40,000 workers support the mining sector, earning an average annual salary of $130,000, while 187 companies remain active in 301 projects including Highland Valley Copper and Copper Mountain.
- Over the past year, British Columbia approved permits for six major mining projects to meet global demand, as mineral-resource development investment grew from approximately $2 billion in 2017 to more than $5 billion in 2024.
- Because lasting success relies on collaboration, British Columbia continues working alongside First Nations and industry to ensure mining remains a strong economic contributor that creates jobs and strengthens communities.
