Millions of drivers at risk of hefty fines due to common roundabout mistake
A Compare the Market study found one in six drivers find roundabouts stressful, while 55% of UK licence holders could also risk the same fine at mini-roundabouts.
A Compare the Market study found 6 million UK drivers risk £50 fines every time they encounter a roundabout due to common driving errors.
Nearly half of drivers admit to driving over raised roundabouts, while 62% report doing so on flat ones, revealing widespread non-compliance with traffic rules.
Over 55% of licence holders risk identical fines on mini-roundabouts; Highway Code Rules 188 to 190 require all vehicles to pass around central markings unless too large.
Julie Daniels from Compare the Market's car insurance team advised drivers to "slow your speed and give yourself enough time to react" at roundabouts.
Rule 185 of the Highway Code mandates: "Always give priority to the traffic coming from the right," a fundamental requirement that failure to follow incurs £50 fines.
