Military chief defends UK response to Middle East conflict
The UK military has increased regional presence with over 400 personnel and aircraft in Cyprus and is preparing HMS Dragon to depart Portsmouth within days, officials said.
- On Saturday, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton rejected claims the UK was ill-prepared and said this is probably the most dangerous period in the last 30-odd years.
- Amid escalating strikes, after a drone struck RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, Sir Richard said Iran's response was assessed to have been launched from Lebanon by an Iranian-aligned group.
- On Saturday, US B-1 Lancer bombers capable of carrying 24 cruise missiles arrived at RAF Fairford, with three more aircraft arriving on Saturday, and forces sent to Cyprus included over 400 personnel, Typhoon jets, and F-35 jets.
