Milan Ag Receives Grant for Growing

(Photo Courtesy: Milan FFA) (Milan, IN) – Milan High School’s agriculture has been awarded a $3,850 Grant for Growing through the National FFA organization. The nationwide Grants for Growing program, sponsored by Tractor Supply Company, provides grant funds to local FFA chapters to support the development or improvement of agricultural education projects that enhance the classroom experiences for students through chapter engagement activities. Milan FFA plans to use the grant funds to purchase new data collecting sensors, and a variety of microscope slides that students will use throughout the school year to conduct hands-on investigations and explore real world applications of science, technology, and agriculture. The grant will also support the program’s Agriscience Fair projects at the end of the school year. Students will be able to use the equipment and skills they develop throughout the year to design and conduct their own agricultural research projects. “These resources will give our students opportunities to do more than simply learn about agriculture; they will allow them to investigate, collect data, analyze results, and draw their own conclusions,” said Milan agriculture teacher and FFA adviser and Breeanna Sides, the Milan agriculture teacher and FFA adviser. “The goal is to give students meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect STEM concepts to agriculture and help them see the many scientific and technological opportunities available within the agricultural industry.” Milan was one of five FFA chapters in Indiana to receive this grant. The Grants for Growing program provided over $900,000 to FFA chapters in 47 states. Funding is provided through consumer donations made during checkout at a Tractor Supply Company store by purchasing a $1 FFA Paper Emblem. The fundraising period aligns with National FFA Week in February.
