Mihály Varga, the Governor of the Hungarian National Bank (MNB), gave a lecture on the introduction of the euro on Thursday at the 64th Traveling Economists' Meeting of the Hungarian Economic Society. The central bank governor also addressed the government, while Finance Minister András Kármán was also in the audience.

Hungary's economic convergence has stalled, and we are starting from a much more difficult situation than previous euro accession countries. According to Mihály Varga, the main problem of the Hungarian economy is currently growth, therefore the introduction of the euro in itself is not a solution.
