A new group of approximately 520 migrants have been rescued by the Greek port police off Gavdos, a small island south of Crete, while Athens is worried about a "mass migration flow" from Libya, the government said.
Greece rescued more than 500 immigrants from a fishing vessel, south of the southernmost island of Avdos, early this Wednesday morning, as announced by the authorities. The Greek newspaper Icatemerini reported that the Greek Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Centre coordinated the operation involving a naval patrol vessel, a Bahamas-flagged cargo vessel, two European Frontex border control aircraft, and four passing ships.
