Microsoft AI (MAI), the research laboratory run by Mustafa Suleyman, presented three own foundational models on April 2: MAI-Transcribe-1 (voice-to-text transcription), MAI-Voice-1 (audio generation) and MAI-Image-2 (image generation). It is the first significant output of the MAI Superintelligence team created in November 2025, and the clearest signal to date that Microsoft wants to reduce its OpenAI dependency on central AI capabilities.
