Microsoft starts testing  ‘Hey, Copilot!’ in Windows

  • Microsoft is testing a new feature that lets Windows 11 Insiders activate Copilot Voice by saying 'Hey, Copilot!' to start a conversation.
  • This feature follows the launch of a conversational Copilot Voice and aims to improve accessibility by replacing key combinations with a voice wake word.
  • Testers with Copilot app version 1.25051.10.0 or higher and English display language can opt in to enable the on-device wake word spotter that uses a 10-second audio buffer without storing or sending clips.
  • Microsoft states that while the wake word recognition works offline, Copilot Voice needs internet access for cloud processing, and user audio is not saved locally or in the cloud unless sharing is enabled.
  • The feature currently supports English only, requires an unlocked PC, and its rollout to Insiders is gradual, suggesting broader availability and language support are expected later.
