Michigan legend Glen Rice headed to college hoops Hall of Fame
Rice becomes the third Wolverine in the hall after a Michigan career that included 2,442 points and a 1989 national title.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, Michigan basketball legend Glen Rice was named as one of six inductees for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2026.
Rice starred for the Michigan Wolverines from 1986-89, leading the program to its first NCAA national championship and setting tournament records with 184 points and 75 field goals during the 1989 title run.
His collegiate record includes 2,442 career points—second-most in program history—and 949 career field goals, a school record. Rice earned prior inductions into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Michigan Hall of Honor .
The six-member class includes championship-winning coaches Jay Wright, Tubby Smith, and Ted Owens, plus players Danny Ainge and Walt Hazzard, with the formal ceremony scheduled for October 22, 2026, at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, Missouri.
Michigan basketball head coach Mike Boynton Jr. said, "Every player who comes through Michigan knows who Glen Rice is and what he means to this program," highlighting Rice's enduring standard of excellence.
