Malaysia extends search for missing flight MH370 by one year
The extension lets Ocean Infinity finish a remaining 7,428.54 sq km search area and reflects the firm’s other commercial commitments, minister Anthony Loke said.
- On Monday, Malaysia extended its underwater search contract with Ocean Infinity for one year, targeting the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.
- The Boeing 777 vanished in 2014 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, becoming one of aviation's enduring mysteries.
- Infinity will be paid about $100 million if it finds the wreckage, with the extension enabling the search of a remaining 7,428.54 sq km area.
- Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated the decision is a "manifestation of the government's continuous and unwavering commitment" to provide closure for the next of kin.
- Search assets will be temporarily redeployed to other locations between November 2026 and April 2027, as Loke confirmed these commercial commitments were factored into the extension.
