The PRI in the Senate considered Morena's initiative to eliminate the rights of Mexican migrants who could aspire to become presidents of Mexico as a whim.
The constitutional reform promoted by the president had 344 votes in favour, 116 against PAN, PRI and MC and one abstention.
To ensure that Presidents of the Republic, governors and head of government of Mexico City maintain “a legal and political link” with the Mexican State, the Chamber of Deputies approved last night the amendment to articles 82, 116 and 122 of the Constitution, so that candidates for those positions may only have Mexican nationality and cannot acquire, invoke or assert any other nationality.
The constitutional reform passed in San Lázaro provides for restrictions for those who have a second nationality and aspire to occupy the main executive positions in the country.
