WEST, Texas (FOX 44) - The West Independent School District has canceled classes due to the widespread flu and illness student and staff absentee rate. Superintendent David Truitt said Wednesday that school closures would be in effect for Thursday, January 30, and Friday, January 31. Classes are schedule to resume on Monday, February 3.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Ector County jail has temporarily closed to visitation amid a rise of  flu cases among inmates in the facility. Sheriff Mike Griffis said the decision was made to help protect the health of inmates, the public, and staff. Visitation is expected to resume on February 11.
