Meta claims it acted on 5.3 million child abuse content in India, over 98% found proactively

The latest disclosure comes after the government had told Meta that it could not continue to invoke its intermediary status and needed to take greater responsibility for child sexual abuse material on its platforms. Meta had admitted to lapses in dealing with child sexual abuse material.
On October 7, 2026, Meta announced new mechanisms against the sexual exploitation of children in advertising. The company said it had handled 33.2 million content on Facebook and Instagram between January and June, including more than 97% prior to reporting. Five AI measures now target coded signs, the destination of ads and recidivism.
