Meta Ran 7,600 AI Nudify Ads via Chinese Partner, Report Finds

Researchers said 4,215 more ads appeared after Meta added new detection tools, reaching an estimated 359,547 users in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

  • Meta Platforms Inc.'s Facebook and Instagram ran roughly 7,600 ads for AI 'nudify' apps in recent months, all placed through Beijing-based GatherOne Inc., an approved advertising partner, according to the nonprofit Tech Transparency Project.
  • Of the 210 Facebook pages identified by the Tech Transparency Project, 85% ran ads that Meta later removed for breaching standards against adult sexual exploitation and nudity, demonstrating systemic policy failures.
  • In June 2025, Meta sued Hong Kong-based Joy Timeline Limited, the developer of 'CrushAI', after it ran more than 87,000 ads across at least 135 Facebook pages, yet the lawsuit did not stop similar campaigns.
  • Meta suspended new ad applications for AI nudify services and removed ads during investigation, while GatherOne stated it operates on a zero-tolerance policy and is carrying out compliance enhancement.
  • The U.S. TAKE IT DOWN Act requires platforms to remove non-consensual intimate imagery within 48 hours, while a George Mason University survey found more than half of 557 teenagers had used nudification tools.
