'Up to 15cm' of Snow Possible as Weather Warnings Issued
Snow accumulations of 2-15cm are possible above 150 metres with strong winds causing travel disruptions, Met Office warns of medium impact but very low likelihood.
- On Tuesday, the Met Office issued a yellow snow warning covering parts of Wales and central England from 4pm on Wednesday, February 18 until 6am on Thursday, February 19.
- Weather fronts moving in from the Atlantic will bring rain and snow into parts of Wales and central England later on Wednesday, accompanied by strong east to north-easterly winds.
- Forecasters say accumulations will reach 2-5 cm widely above 150-200 metres, with 10-15 cm possible above 250-300 metres in mid and southeast Wales, Herefordshire and Shropshire.
- Drivers are being urged to carry winter kits including warm clothing and food, allow extra time, and check vehicles before setting off amid possible travel delays and disruptions, the Met Office spokesman warned.
- The Met Office rated the warning as "very low likelihood" but with a "medium impact" and the UK Health Security Agency issued a yellow cold health alert from 6pm on Tuesday until 6pm on Friday.
