In Iceland, the gap between supporters and opponents of resuming negotiations with the EU on the country's accession to the European Union is increasingly narrowing ahead of the referendum on August 29.
If Icelanders say yes in the referendum on Saturday, the government estimates that accession negotiations could begin before the end of the year and could be completed in one and a half to two years. If the result is no, accession negotiations will not resume. Whether the result is yes or no, the EEA Agreement will continue to apply to Iceland's position towards the European Union, along with various other agreements that Iceland has concluded. …
