- At 5 p.m., the advisory placed Melissa about 130 miles southeast of Kingston and roughly 250 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with maximum sustained winds near 90 mph, moving west at 3 mph, and estimated minimum central pressure 974 mb.
- Jamaica faces a hurricane warning with damaging winds and heavy rain starting Saturday night, while Haiti is expected to endure catastrophic flash flooding and landslides causing extensive infrastructure damage.
- Models and experts note Melissa's slow movement will bring 15 to 25 inches of rain to southern Hispaniola and Jamaica into Wednesday, with local maxima of 35 inches possible, while posing little to no direct risk to Florida or the U.S.
