First Lady Melania Trump to Go to LSU-Alabama Game, Announces $5 Million Endowment Fund
First Lady Melania Trump will visit Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge on Saturday, Nov. 7, to announce a $5 million permanent endowment fund supporting LSU students who have experienced foster care.
The endowment supports the 'Fostering the Future' initiative, which Melania Trump established in 2021 as part of her Be Best program to help foster youth overcome barriers to college completion.
Research from the Annie E. Casey Foundation shows only 8% to 12% of people with foster care experience earn a degree by their mid-20s, underscoring the critical need for this targeted financial aid.
During Saturday's LSU Tigers versus Alabama Crimson Tide football game at Tiger Stadium, the Fostering the Future campaign will activate across campus and on the field to promote scholarship opportunities.
More than 20 schools nationwide now offer these scholarships, with LSU Chancellor Jim Dalton, a vocal foster care advocate and foster parent himself, championing the program's expansion across Louisiana's system.
