The central Mediterranean is confirmed an increasingly deadly route: almost 27,000 deaths from shipwreck since 2014. In 2026, while decreasing arrivals, however, increases mortality, with a tragic budget of one victim every 23 people arrived. (ANSA)
This year alone, migrants in the Mediterranean have died or are missing in the attempt to reach the European coasts – reports the Fondazione Ismu Foundation. In twelve years, more than 35,000 people have been killed on the routes across the inland sea.
Mortality on the migratory route of the Central Mediterranean has skyrocketed in 2026 to one person dead or missing for every 2 years.
