Medicinal cannabis company to create 100 jobs in Scottish expansion
Breathe Life Sciences plans to create 36 jobs initially, expanding to 100 within three years, to meet rising UK demand for locally manufactured medicinal cannabis products.
- Next year, Breathe Life Sciences will open its first Scottish manufacturing and distribution centre in the Borders, creating 36 jobs initially with plans to grow to around 100 in three years.
- Chief executive Sam Watson said: `In the whole of the European market, the UK is the quickest growing area`, citing few UK manufacturers and local directors Gavin and Andrew Ogilvie’s persuasion.
- A grant of almost £350,000 and a £500,000 loan from South of Scotland Enterprise helped, and BLS already has licensed sites in Manchester, Prague, and Nagoya.
- Director Gavin Ogilvie said: `We will offer highly skilled pharmaceutical jobs – both at entry level and for people with experience` as BLS plans to build Scottish manufacturing infrastructure, supported by SOSE funding, to reduce imports and serve domestic and international markets.
- BLS also produces psilocybin and MDMA and last month secured two MDMA contracts as industry research forecasts active patients rising from 80,000 to more than 190,000 by decade's end.
