Antony Catalano Fronts Court in Person for First Time Since Alleged Attack
The media mogul faces eight criminal charges as police allege an hour-long attack and say CCTV footage will be used as evidence.
Media mogul Antony Catalano appeared in person at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday, marking his first physical appearance since being charged in March with assault-related offenses.
Police alleged the 59-year-old co-owner of Australian Community Media choked, strangled, and threatened to kill his wife, Stefanie, at a St Kilda property in March, resulting in eight criminal charges.
Catalano, represented by lawyers Tony Hargreaves and Dermot Dann, completed a 28-day rehabilitation stint and said at the time he was "struggling with significant mental health and substance abuse issues."
Following a reconciliation with her husband, Stefanie filed two statements of no complaint with Victoria Police, though she has alleged authorities were seeking to "destroy" him and plans to attend Friday's hearing remotely.
Prosecutors plan to rely on CCTV footage from the couple's apartment complex to support their case; Catalano has not yet entered a plea, though his legal team indicated there are "triable issues" to work through.
